The Girl of Fire and Thorns

The Girl of Fire and Thorns review

By Rae Carson

To start off, I would like to say that I tend to choose my books based on their covers. Every time that I go to the Library’s YA section this book’s cover would catch my eye. Yet I refused to get this book because it is a trilogy. I didn't want to get stuck reading another trilogy since I've read so many before! I  went  back and forth for several months and finally got the book last week.

The first book was ok but didn't hold my attention for a long period of time so I got The Girl of  Fire and Thorns. Within the  first  two pages I was so into the book that I needed to know what was going to happen!

For one, this is the first book that didn't portray a beautiful skinny girl. On the contrary we have this lonely princess, Eliza -Lucero, that goes unnoticed by her older sister and father who everybody avoids because she has the goldstone in her belly which means she's destine to do wonderful things to which she doesn't agree with. If that wasn't enough, she's  getting married to King de  Vega  who she doesn't love and hasn't even met. The two people  who truly love her unconditionally are her nurse who has taken care of her since birth and her lady in waiting. She hopes her new husband is ugly so she can hate him more easily but she is in for a big surprise! Once she moves into her new home, her husband asks her to keep their marriage a secret. As the days pass she's faced with more facts that indicate her husband may have a mistress. She can't help feeling jealous and every time she's with the King she can't think straight. As the days continue Eliza starts to find out that everybody has been hiding things from her especially her nurse. Soon she begins to look for answers and as she uncovers more answers she encounters more questions. Then it all goes downhill when something unexpected happens and she's forced to think for herself.

Well, I just have to tell you that you will love this book (especially if you’re looking for something that isn't vampire or witch themed)! It has many twists that will leave you with your mouth open as well as many unexpected events that leave you wanting more as well as hoping it’s all false. As for Elisa  all I can say is that she will become a great person. When it comes to Eliza’s true love, be prepare to be amazed....

I can't wait to read the other two books and hope that I don’t get discourage by the ending☺ I love this book!!!! So far I'm like OMG what just happened???? Rae Carson left me with big expectations that I am hoping for a fantastic ending☺
